Reasons for the decline and scarcity of rainfall since last fall until now, despite our approaching the middle of winter

Arab Weather - Since the beginning of autumn and its end, and with the beginning of winter until the present time, and as we approach the end of January, large and scattered parts of the eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea are exposed to a significant weakness in rainfall rates, and this is a rare occurrence, especially since this is the time of the rainy season in those areas.

Reasons for the decline and scarcity of rainfall since last fall until now, despite our approaching the middle of winter

Weather forecasters at the Arab Weather Center said that this situation is due to several factors, including the general distancing of air depressions from the region or their taking unusual paths towards the Arabian Peninsula in most periods, which is a rare occurrence. It is natural for air depressions to take their way across the Mediterranean Sea, and thus be centered over the island of Cyprus, and in this case the situation is better over large parts of the eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea in terms of the impact of rain.

The second and most important reason is due to the control of a solid high pressure system over the region, which prevents the deepening or flow of any air depressions towards the region, especially the eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea. As a result, rain is only present on the coastal strip overlooking the Mediterranean Sea from Egypt, especially the northwestern part and the coasts of the Levant. Other than that, large areas of Jordan, Syria, parts of Iraq and the Egyptian Sinai are exposed to low rainfall rates, which is rare. Of course, the continuation of this situation in the coming days may greatly affect the areas of agricultural land and water resources in those areas in a negative way.
