Thunderstorms in large areas of Saudi Arabia coincide with the first week of Ramadan

Arab Weather - Sinan Khalaf - The weather forecasting staff at Arab Weather is monitoring the increasing indications that large parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be affected by rainy weather conditions during the first week of Ramadan, starting gradually from Monday evening and continuing until the end of the week at least.

Weather fluctuations begin in the west of the Kingdom starting Monday evening

Arab Weather experts expect that weather fluctuations will begin in the Kingdom starting from the evening hours of Monday, with cumulus clouds multiplying and scattered showers of rain falling on different parts of the west of the Kingdom, including parts of Al-Baha and the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, later extending during the night hours to include parts of the Madinah region, accompanied by lightning and thunder.

The weather fluctuations will intensify starting Tuesday, accompanied by heavy rain and hail showers.

Starting from the early hours of Tuesday, the unstable weather conditions will expand, and cumulonimbus clouds will be active in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, including the coastal areas and the city of Jeddah, in addition to Taif, Madinah, Al-Baha, and parts of the northern Riyadh region, extending to Hail, Al-Qassim, parts of Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, and Hafar Al-Batin, reaching some northern parts of the Eastern Region, accompanied by thunderstorms of varying intensity, in addition to showers of hail that are sometimes dense and accumulated.

Down winds and dust storms possible

This type of cumulonimbus clouds, at this time of year, is often accompanied by the formation of descending air currents, which cause dust waves and perhaps local sandstorms in the affected areas, causing a noticeable decrease in horizontal visibility and perhaps its disappearance at times.

Scientific reasons for the expected weather conditions

Arab Weather experts attributed these weather fluctuations to the rush of a cold air mass towards the eastern Mediterranean basin and the Levant region, coinciding with the flow of moist air currents from tropical sources, which leads to the emergence of weather disturbances and a state of atmospheric instability, which results in the formation of strong clouds accompanied by heavy thunderstorms.
