Typhoon Hinnamur.. horrific scenes and death toll rises in South Korea

Weather of Arabia - The authorities in South Korea announced today, Wednesday (September 7), that the death toll from Typhoon Hinnam rose to 10, after the storm hit the southern coast with strong waves and heavy rain this week.

Typhoon Hinnamnor, one of the strongest to hit the country in decades, flooded streets and buildings as it passed on Monday and Tuesday.

And in the southeastern port city of Pohang - one of the worst-hit areas - seven bodies and two survivors were pulled out of the submerged underground car park of a housing complex, the central headquarters for disaster and safety measures said.

The nine were trapped after they entered the parking lot to pick up their cars during heavy rain, according to local media reports.

Search and rescue operations continued on Wednesday and authorities said two people were still missing.

Authorities said another death was confirmed in Pohang on Wednesday and another in Gyeongju, where a person was killed when a house was buried in a landslide.

The nine deaths come after the death of a 70-year-old woman who died in Pohang after being swept away by flood waters on Tuesday.

Hinamnor forced more than 4,700 people to flee their homes in search of safety, and nearly 12,000 homes and buildings were destroyed.

Authorities said nearly 90,000 households across the country had lost power with the storm, but supplies had returned to most of them by Wednesday morning.

Before the typhoon made landfall, South Korean authorities closed more than 600 schools across the country as a precaution, and local airlines canceled about 250 domestic flights.
