Weather of Arabia - The Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Engineer Hisham Al-Haisa, said that the storage quantities in the dams amounted to about 130 million cubic meters , and the storage percentage of water harvesting sites is 50%, indicating that these numbers give us comfort in securing the needs of the Jordanian agricultural sector, and are reassuring according to strategic plan.
Al-Hasiah added, during his intervention on Jordanian television, that the Jordan Valley Authority is responsible for the sites of the main dams, which amount to 16 dams, and there are 422 water harvesting sites , distributed in the Jordanian valleys, in addition to the King Abdullah Canal, which is 110 kilometers long.
He continued: There is a strategic plan from the Water and Irrigation Department and the Jordan Valley Authority, to control attacks and deal with all state agencies and institutions, in addition to departments located in the northern central Jordan Valley and dam sites, and there is a process of arresting those who carry out attacks and referring them to the judiciary.
He stated that there is a water budget prepared on a daily basis to determine the quantities of water, in addition to a water budget to supply farmers in the summer and secure their needs for the continuity of the agricultural sector’s work.
He noted that the Jordan Valley region, whether the northern Jordan Valley, the central valley, and the Jubia, is the food basket and the backbone of the agricultural sector.
He continued that the decrease in temperatures and rainfall nourishes the soil, reduces evaporation processes, and gives us a longer period to preserve strategic stores to secure farmers in the Jordan Valley with water.
He touched on the strategic plan for managing dam stores, where the Jordan Valley Authority exploits rainwater and collects it at dam sites in order to create a program that balances the needs of farmers with the quantities stored in the dams to ensure the sustainability of the water storage of the Jordan Valley.
He explained that the summer water budget plan is prepared at the end of the winter season, and is specified with numbers and plans agreed upon between the Jordan Valley Authority and the farmers, and is related to the classification of the soil according to the agricultural pattern and according to the crops present in the Jordan Valley areas, and that there is a budget in the winter season that guarantees the inventory of the stored water that is stored. Use it in the summer.
The Jordan Valley Authority reassured farmers and the agricultural sector that it has strategic stores sufficient for the farmers’ needs that were agreed upon between the authority and the farmers.
