Jordan | Why do the eastern winds increase the feeling of coldness in the winter in the Kingdom?

Arabia Weather - In the winter, the activity of eastern winds over the Kingdom increases, and this is due to the fluctuation of weather systems and the continuous movement of air masses. When cold air masses are present to the west of the region, warm air masses move towards the region or to the east of it, and because the movement of winds in the high Atmospheric movement clockwise, this is driven by winds whose direction is coming from the east towards the Kingdom.

But why does everyone feel colder when the easterly winds are active?

The characteristics of the winds coming from the east differ from those coming from the west. The reason for this is that the winds coming from the west pass over a warm body of water, and thus the temperature of the wind rises because it gains significant moisture when it passes over the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

While the winds coming from the east follow a dry continental path, that is, they pass over a continental surface devoid of the presence of bodies of water, and therefore the eastern winds do not gain moisture and have less humidity, and thus the eastern winds cool due to their following a dry path.

Due to the lack of humidity and its absence in light of the activity of winds from continental sources, everyone feels that the perceived temperature is much lower than the actual recorded temperature. The reason is that in the case of the human body in the case of cold, dry eastern air, the body’s secretion of sweat is non-existent or limited, and thus the secretion of sweat, which is a source, is reduced. Heat for the human body, and the perceived temperature becomes lower than the actual recorded temperature.
