Iraq: Temperatures approach 50°C in these areas as strong winds intensify
Arab Weather - The latest outputs from numerical weather forecast models indicate that an extremely hot air mass will penetrate the various layers of the atmosphere, particularly the surface ones, toward Iraq in the coming days. This will cause a significant rise in temperatures, reaching high levels in many regions, particularly the southern regions.
Temperatures are approaching 50 degrees in various areas of southern Iraq.
According to numerical weather forecasts, temperatures are expected to approach 50 degrees Celsius in many parts of southern Iraq during the afternoon hours on a daily basis. Among the most prominent Iraqi cities expected to witness temperatures approaching 50 degrees Celsius are Basra, Al-Qurna, Nasiriyah, Samawah, and Diwaniyah.
This coincides with an increase in northwesterly winds, known locally as "Bawareh winds," across several parts of Iraq, particularly the central and southern regions, causing dust storms and reduced horizontal visibility.
What is the scientific reason behind the deepening of the extremely hot air mass?
The scientific reason for the deepening of this extremely hot air mass toward Iraq is due to the rush of a moderate air mass coming from the Mediterranean Sea toward the Levant, forcing a scorching air mass with extremely high temperatures to directly penetrate Iraqi territory.
In such weather conditions, the Arab Weather website advises:
- Drink plenty of fluids regularly.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight for long periods to avoid sunstroke.
- Do not leave children inside closed vehicles under the sun.
- Avoid placing pressurized and flammable containers inside vehicles to avoid the risk of ignition.
And God knows best.
