Arab Weather - Experts at the Arab Weather Center said that the latest computer simulation results indicate that Iraq will be affected by a heat dome phenomenon during the coming week, causing a severe heat wave that could see temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius in the south and within this range in Baghdad, amid scorching and exhausting temperatures.

A heat wave will hit Iraq starting Saturday and will continue throughout the week. Recommendations are in place to avoid leaving your home during the afternoon and evening.

In detail, God willing, Iraq is expected to be affected by a new heat wave starting from Saturday and continuing for a week. This is due to the intensification of the high pressure system in the upper atmosphere, which is fueling the heat dome phenomenon, accompanied by a blazing air mass in the lower atmosphere. Therefore, there will be a clear rise in temperatures, exceeding their normal rates by about 7 degrees Celsius, and the weather will be very hot and blazing in all areas of Iraq, amid recommendations to postpone activities for the evening and night and avoid exposure to sunlight during the afternoon and afternoon.

Temperatures may exceed 50 degrees Celsius in the southern regions, while they may reach 50 degrees in Baghdad.

Looking at the computer simulation outputs that show the temperature trajectory, we find that the southern regions of Iraq will be the most affected by this heat wave, as temperatures there range from 50-52 degrees Celsius, especially in Basra, the Samawah desert, and the cities of the Middle Euphrates, while they reach 50 degrees Celsius in Baghdad and the cities of central Iraq, especially from Sunday, while they range from 44-48 degrees Celsius in the north, except for the towering mountain peaks, and the weather will be scorching and exhausting.

Arab Weather's updated weather maps also show an extreme fire probability index in most areas of Iraq, due to rising temperatures during the expected heat wave, resulting from dry grasses, low humidity, and dry conditions. Therefore, it is recommended to take the utmost care and be vigilant against the risk of fires, especially in agricultural areas, orchards, and forests.

During the heat wave, the Arab Weather Center recommends paying attention to the following:

Avoid prolonged and direct exposure to sunlight.

Drink sufficient amounts of fluids and moisturizers constantly.

Do not leave pressurized containers or any flammable materials inside closed vehicles under the sun.

Do not leave children inside closed vehicles, even for a short period.

Beware of the danger of increased dust levels and their impact on patients with respiratory and bronchial diseases and horizontal vision.

Wear loose, light-colored clothing and hats.
