Weather of Arabia - Several regions in Morocco, especially in the center, the Atlas Mountains and the southeast, witnessed heavy snowfall since Friday, which led to the population being trapped there.

Residents of a number of these areas appealed to the authorities to help them after they were affected by the snow, through posts and video clips that were broadcast on social media.

Helping those trapped in the snow in Morocco

In the wake of the bad weather and the significant snowfalls that were recorded in the provinces of Ouarzazate and Zagora (southeast), and Taroudant (centre), King Mohammed VI gave, on Saturday, instructions to the various sectors concerned to provide the necessary assistance to the population trapped in snow in several regions of the country.

The Royal Armed Forces (the army) will provide logistical support through its air equipment, in order to speed up the operations of supplying aid and transporting human elements to serve the affected population.

On the other hand, an official source revealed that efforts are being made to lift the snow blockade on the population, especially in the Tidili region of the Ouarzazate region, stressing in turn that what snow thickness has reached in this region during the last 48 hours has not been recorded in the region for more than 80 years.

These precipitations come after a drought that affected the agricultural and water sector, and the entire economy, because it is closely linked to agriculture in Morocco.
