Arab Weather - January 2025 is approaching its midpoint, and the region is still suffering from weak air depressions reaching the Kingdom, in continuation of the same weather system that has affected the region since the beginning of the current season.

January is considered one of the coldest and rainiest months of the year, according to archival and statistical data in “Arab Weather”, as many are accustomed to the Kingdom being affected in January by rainy and perhaps snowy air depressions, unlike what is happening in the current month of January.

Are the current weather conditions normal and what were the weather conditions like in the first third of January during the last 10 years?

According to the archives of Arab Weather, we review the weather conditions that prevailed during the first third of January during the last 10 years:

January 1 - 10, 2024: Weather conditions similar to those now, as the Kingdom was not affected by depressions until January 10, 2024, while the Kingdom was affected by a secondary weather condition that brought rain to some areas.

1- January 10, 2023: Similar weather conditions, as the first third of January 2023 witnessed mostly stable weather with some minor conditions in the form of atmospheric instability.

January 1 - 10, 2022: The Kingdom was affected by a state of atmospheric instability followed by an extension of a low-pressure system in the first days of the month, while the Kingdom was not affected by any weather conditions for the rest of the first third of the month.

January 1 - 10, 2021: A high pressure system dominated the Kingdom throughout the first third of the month, bringing stable weather and temperatures around higher than their annual average. The Kingdom was not affected by any weather conditions during this period.

January 1 - 10, 2020: Weather conditions were completely different from what they are now, as the Kingdom was affected by more than one low-pressure system, one of which was very deep and classified, and cold to very cold weather prevailed for most of this period, and snow fell on the high peaks of the southern part of the Kingdom.

1 - 10 January 2019: During this period, very cold weather prevailed and the Kingdom was affected by several weather conditions, one of which was a third-degree depression at the end of the period, bringing heavy rain to various regions and snow showers over the high mountainous elevations.

1 - 10 January 2018: The Kingdom was affected by several weather conditions during this period, one of which was a deep low pressure system of the classified degrees, which brought heavy rains and strong winds to various regions.

1 - 10 January 2017: The Kingdom was affected by an extension of a low pressure system at the beginning of the period, while the weather stabilized after that and very cold weather prevailed at the end of the period.

1 - 10 January 2016: The Kingdom was affected at the beginning of the year (New Year) by a low pressure system accompanied by an air mass of polar origin that lasted for several days, accompanied by very cold weather and heavy rains in various regions, and also accompanied by snow showers over the high mountainous areas, while the weather stabilized later and the Kingdom was affected during the period from 7-9 January 2016 by a cold low pressure system accompanied by rains in various regions.

1 - 10 January 2015: The first third of January 2015 was considered one of the coldest periods in the Kingdom’s history, as the Kingdom was affected by the famous Huda storm, which lasted from the 6th to the 10th of the month, and brought a sharp drop in temperatures, heavy rains, and strong winds. Snow fell for several days in different highlands of the Kingdom, followed by a record freezing wave and a drop in temperatures to below zero degrees Celsius in various regions of the Kingdom.

As a general summary, according to archival data in the last 10 years, we find that the weather conditions are considered better than they are now in the first third of this January, with the hope that the weather conditions will improve in the rest of this month.
