The jet stream will swell towards the eastern Mediterranean, and a cooler air mass will arrive in late July and early August.
Arab Weather - The entire eastern Mediterranean basin is experiencing hot to extremely hot weather these days, due to the growing influence of the so-called subtropical high pressure system, which is fueling a heat dome in the region, specifically in Iraq, Kuwait, and eastern Saudi Arabia. The heat dome is reaching its peak with temperatures that may exceed 50 degrees Celsius, as these regions are among the hottest on Earth at the present time.
The effects of the air mass extend to the Levant, resulting in hotter-than-usual conditions. In Egypt, a heat wave is gripping the country, with temperatures reaching nearly 44 degrees Celsius in many areas.
A jet stream undulation brings a cooler air mass to the eastern Mediterranean.
Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that weather maps indicate a ripple in the jet stream during the last days of July and the beginning of August, leading to a cooler, more humid air mass rushing toward the eastern Mediterranean basin. As a result:
- The long and tiring heat wave in Egypt is breaking, and temperatures are dropping significantly, returning to their normal levels.
- The effects of this air mass are most pronounced in the Levant, where temperatures drop and the weather becomes more typical of summer, particularly over the highlands. Sea winds are active and low clouds appear, which may result in local rainfall on the Syrian and Lebanese coasts.
- The influence of the cooler air mass is also extending towards Iraq, breaking the heat wave, causing temperatures to drop significantly, and active winds that stir up dust and dirt.
And God knows best.
