Arab Weather - Weather experts at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the latest data from what is called computer simulation indicates that Iraq will be affected, God willing, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, by a state of atmospheric instability resulting from the approach of very cold winds in the upper layers of the atmosphere and their coincidence with warm air in the lower layers of the atmosphere, followed by a wave of severe cold with the last week of this month.

In detail, the initial computer outputs show that Iraq will be affected, God willing, during the period of the 20th of this month by a state of atmospheric instability resulting from an extension of the Red Sea depression. Therefore, temperatures rise and unstable weather conditions prevail, which will lead to the proliferation of quantities of cumulonimbus clouds in different areas of Iraq, especially the north and center of the country, and thunderstorms of rain will fall, which will be heavy in some narrow geographical areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail showers.

A very cold polar air mass will gradually settle over the region in the last week of the month, producing very cold weather in Iraq.

Based on the latest preliminary computer outputs, a very cold polar air mass is expected to rush towards southeastern Europe and settle over Turkish territory, gradually infiltrating very cold polar winds towards Iraq, causing temperatures to drop significantly, especially at night, to below zero degrees Celsius, especially in the north and west of the country. Severe to very cold weather will prevail in various regions, God willing.

Regarding the fact that Iraq is affected by a snowstorm, specialists at the Arab Weather Air Operations Center indicated that the cold weather accompanying this very cold air mass allows for snowfall, but the matter is not that simple. The matter depends on the path taken by the polar winds, and if the path is wet, it will bring snowfall to several areas in the north of the country in particular, and if the path is continental, it will not be accompanied by widespread snowfall.
