Two consecutive earthquakes hit southern Türkiye, months after the devastating earthquake

Weather of Arabia - Two successive earthquakes struck, on Wednesday evening, the state of Kahramanmaraş in southern Turkey, which is the epicenter of the devastating earthquake that struck the country last February and its effects extended to Syria, at a time when the conditions of the survivors of the disaster are still dire, despite the passage of months since it occurred.

And the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, AFAD, stated in a statement that the two earthquakes occurred in the Gokson region in the state of Kahramanmaraş, with the first measuring 5 and the second measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.

The first earthquake occurred at 20:16 local time, at a depth of 7 kilometers underground.

As for the second earthquake, it occurred minutes after the first, at 20:22, at a depth of 6.83 kilometers underground.

It is known that a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the province at dawn on February 6, destroying a number of cities and leaving thousands dead and injured.

It was followed by another earthquake, 9 hours apart, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, and then thousands of aftershocks.

The February 6 earthquake killed more than 50,000 people, including more than 6,000 in Syria, according to the United Nations, and displaced hundreds of thousands.

For its part, the Turkish authorities described the series of devastating earthquakes that struck Syria and Turkey as an unprecedented "catastrophe of the century".
