Arab Weather - The western regions of Syria have witnessed massive forest fires 4 days ago due to a significant rise in temperatures. The fires destroyed vast green areas in the mountains of Latakia, Hama and Homs.

The rise in temperatures by 9 to 11 degrees above normal for this time of year contributed to the rapid spread of fires, according to the Syrian news agency "SANA"

The firefighters are still fighting the fires that broke out on Saturday in the Slanfah forests in Lattakia, which extended to the western countryside of Hama, specifically to the villages of Al-Freekeh, Al-Fawqania and Ain Badriya.

The fires caused significant environmental damage to forests and nature reserves, as well as to homes and properties.

The director of the General Authority for Forest Management and Development, Wafa Wasouf, told SANA that the fire broke out in Slunfeh forests in Latakia governorate, and it spread due to the fluctuation and intensity of the winds towards the eastern side. Near Ain Jourin Road.

The rugged terrain and steep slope of the area, combined with limited resources and high temperatures hindered the firefighting efforts.
