Lightning strikes a mosque in Mafraq, causing cracks in its minaret and a power outage.
Arab Weather - A mosque in the Mafraq Governorate was struck by lightning, which caused cracks in its minaret and a power outage. The Director of Endowments in the Mafraq Governorate, Dr. Saud Al-Mashaqa, said that as soon as the report was received by the directorate, a specialized technical committee was formed to conduct a physical inspection of the mosque and its minaret, and the committee recorded the damage caused by the lightning.
Al-Mashaqbeh added that the mosque is located in the Al-Zubaidiya area of the northwestern Badia, and is known as the Mut’eb Al-Majlad Mosque. He confirmed that the committee recommended the need to restore electricity to the mosque, which prompted the directorate to contact the electricity company to take the necessary measures.
Al-Mashaqbeh explained that this incident, which is unusual, came as a result of the prevailing weather conditions in most areas of the governorate and the continuous thunderstorms and heavy rains that it witnessed, stressing the continued coordination between the directorate and the concerned authorities to monitor the situation.
