وقال المتحدث الرسمي باسم الدفاع المدني بمنطقة عسير العقيد محمد العاصمي بأن "مركز التحكم والتوجيه تلقى بلاغاً بوجود حريق في أحد مباني المعهد المهني في حي الحماطه شرق المحافظة، وقد باشرت فرق الدفاع المدني الحادث، حيث كان عبارة عن حريق في غرفة من المباني الجاهزة تستخدم كمسجد للموظفين، ضمن عدد من الغرف والمباني الجاهزة، والتي تستخدم كورش خارجيه للتدريب تابعة للمعهد المهني، وبعد المعاينة الأولية تبين أن سبب الحريق صاعقه رعدية، على أثر أمطار خفيفة هطلت على المحافظة ويجري استكمال إجراءات التحقيق".
وأضاف العاصمي "تم احتواء الحريق ومنع انتشاره، ولم ينتج عنه أي خسائر بشرية، وجرى استكمال كامل الاجرآءات وتسليم الموقع لمسؤلي المعهد المتواجدين بالموقع".
