For his part, a spokesman for the Libyan Ambulance Service told Al Jazeera that entire neighborhoods in the city of Derna were leveled due to the torrential rains that swept the city at dawn on Monday.

The city of Derna, northeastern Libya, was directly affected by Storm Daniel, as heavy rain fell, and water descended strongly towards the valleys of Derna, causing the collapse of dams and the occurrence of massive floods that destroyed the city.
