For the first time, plastic is an energy source

ArabiaWeather.com - Khitam Amer - A number of researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago, USA, have created a sports shoe that lights up after a 30-minute walk using plastic as a new energy source that has not been used before, as inside this shoe there is a liquid that starts to glow after the aforementioned period.

The researchers' goal from this innovation was to obtain energy from an unfamiliar and well-known source represented in plastic, which is made up of a series of molecules, and each molecule contains a group of atoms.

The chain of molecules is linked to each other through bonds, often in the form of a pair (or pairs) of negative electrons. When these bonds are subjected to pressure or bending, they break. This process is known as "free radical" so that the number of electrons in them becomes odd, which makes them unstable. It works to find an electron that completes it, or it loses one electron in order to achieve stability and return to its normal state, and this happens through a chemical reaction to obtain new energy from plastic.
