ArabiaWeather.com- Abu Dhabi-based Enviromena Power Systems, a global company operating in the solar energy development sector, has been awarded a contract to build a 103 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant in Quweira, southern Jordan, in cooperation with TSK Group. Spanish specialized in contracting engineering, supply and construction.

The company confirmed in a statement yesterday, Monday, that the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will finance the $128 million project, through a grant obtained from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

Sami Al-Khraibi, CEO of the Emirati company, Enviromena Poor Systems, said that the project is the largest that Enviromena has won to date, and it represents an indication of the expansion of solar energy investment in the region.

The station, which will be called the "Quweira Solar Power Plant," is an important part of the program to diversify the sources of energy generation in Jordan, according to Al-Khraibi. He added that the project will contribute to reducing the Kingdom's dependence on high-cost hydrocarbon resources, thus helping it achieve its goal of generating 600 megawatts of solar and wind energy by 2016.
