يُذكر أن منطقة مطار الملكة علياء الدولي عادةً ما تشهد أجواءً ليلية باردة، نتيجة وقوعها ضمن المناخ شبه الصحراوي وحدوث التبريد الحاد مع ساعات الليل المُتأخرة بفعل فقدان الحرارة بالإشعاع عبر أراضي سهلية شاسعة تُعد بوابة البادية الأردنية شرقاً وإلى هضاب محافظة مادبا وجنوب عمان الرطبة المجاورة، وبالتالي يتكدّس الهواء البارد في منطقة سهول زيزيا بسبب إرتفاعها الأقل نسبياً عن سطح البحر مُقارنة بالمناطق المذكورة إذ يبلغ حوالي 710-720 متراً.
