فقد بدأت أجزاء مختلفة من سيبيريا في روسيا تعاني من بداية الشتاء بشكل مبكر حيث تتعرض المنطقة خلال الأيام القادمة لموجة من البرد تنخفض من خلالها درجات الحرارة إلى 10 درجات مئوية تحت الصفر في بعض المناطق وأيضاً تساقط للثلوج على أجزاء واسعة من المنطقة تشمل بحيرة بايكال وتكمن أهمية هذه البحيرة في أنها أكبر مصدر للمياه العذبة السطحية على سطح الأرض
