The first image of the crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH taken during the day from Abu Dhabi

Today, the first image of the crescent moon of the month of “Dhu al-Hijjah” for the year 1447 AH was recorded, as it was observed during the day from the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, by the Al Khatim Astronomical Observatory, affiliated with the International Astronomy Center.

The crescent moon was photographed on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 9:20 AM UAE time. Astronomical data showed that the moon was about 7.8 degrees away from the sun, and the moon was only about 9 hours old since the conjunction.

The monitoring team reported that this image is one of the earliest pictures of the crescent moon, and demonstrates the accuracy of the astronomical conditions that allowed it to be observed in broad daylight.
