وكانت إدارة الدفاع المدني في أبها قد أطلقت صافرات الإنذار في مدينة أبها نتيجة الأمطار الغزيرة المتواصلة على المدينة منذ ساعات، والتي رفعت خزون المياه داخل السدود لمستويات قياسية، حيث بلغت كمية الامطار الهاطلة قرابة الـ 80 ملم بحسب محطة رصد أبها.
