Oman Meteorology issues Report No. (1) on the expected weather during the period from 18 to 21 April 2023

A new air depression is expected to begin in the Sultanate of Oman from Tuesday, April 18, 2023, which may continue for four days in some governorates, said the Omani meteorologist.

Today, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued its first report on the expected weather during the period 18-21 April 2023.

The authority said that the latest weather maps and analyzes of the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards (NCEWMH) indicate that the atmosphere of the Sultanate of Oman may be affected by a groove of an air depression, starting from tomorrow evening, Tuesday, 18, 2023, and continue until Friday morning, April 21, 2023.

There are chances of clouds advection and isolated rain with occasional thundershowers expected on the Hajar Mountains and neighboring areas from Tuesday, April 18, 2023 evening. The peak of the groove effect is expected to be in the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al-Wusta and A'Dakhiliyah.

The authority warned of the following:

On Wednesday and Thursday, heavy rains ranging between 20-45 mm may lead to the flow of valleys and reefs.

Active downward winds, with speeds ranging between 15 and 35 knots (28-64 km/h).

Decreased horizontal visibility due to dust and thunderstorms.

The Civil Aviation Authority advises all to take precautions during rainfall and overflow of valleys, and to check the visibility and sea state before sailing, along with following weather bulletins & reports.
