Arab countries | What is happening in Libya?.. The rarest weather event ever may not happen again (details)

Arab Weather - The State of Libya, specifically the southern and southeastern regions, is affected by summer rains accompanied by thunder, heavy rains, and activity in winds that raise dust and sandstorms.

Weather forecasters at the Arab Weather Center said that the weather conditions affecting Libya are the result of an unprecedented advance of the tropical break further north, which has led to the flow of large amounts of tropical moisture towards dry areas in Libya that do not usually receive large amounts of rain, and are almost non-existent during the year.

Experts at Arab Weather said that the southeastern regions of Libya in particular are considered areas that rarely receive thunderclouds or lightning, as they are considered dry regions that do not receive sufficient amounts of moisture annually necessary for the formation of clouds and rainfall. According to a map previously published by NASA showing the locations of lightning activity around the world, it shows that the southeastern regions of Libya are completely devoid of any lightning activity.

Huge amounts of rain are the highest since 1952

According to the latest reports issued by the Libyan Meteorological Department yesterday, Sunday , about 46 millimeters of rain fell in just one hour in the city of Kufra, which is a huge number compared to the low annual average for the region, as the amount of rain that fell is the highest since 1952. The rain was also accompanied by strong winds that led to the formation of sandstorms in the city and a decrease in horizontal visibility. The heavy rains also led to torrential floods that flooded large parts of the city and led to the flooding of the city hospital there, in addition to significant material losses.
