Videos | Engine on fire and moments of terror experienced by passengers of a United Airlines plane

Arab Weather - The passengers of United Flight 328, which took off from Denver Airport, lived terrifying moments yesterday, Saturday, after the plane's engine disintegrated minutes after takeoff, as one of the passengers filmed a video clip from inside the plane of the disintegrated engine, and the video showed the missing front part of the engine, with The presence of flames coming from the middle and back sections.

The right engine of a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 broke down a few minutes after the plane left Denver Airport in Colorado yesterday, February 20, 2021, and the pilots made an emergency landing in Denver 25 minutes after take-off. The accident occurred shortly after the 26-year-old plane left Denver airport bound for Honolulu.

John Goglia, an aviation safety expert and former member of the National Transportation Safety Board, says photos and videos of the burning plane's engine reveal that the crash was due to a malfunction in the engine housing, as the images showed damage similar to the 2018 event.

Goglia, who has extensive experience studying turbine engine failures, also sees evidence that the engine ring - usually made of shock-resistant material - did not prevent loose components from exiting the engine.

However, details are still few and the investigation is still in its early stages to reveal the causes of the engine disintegration accident, which did not result in injuries.

An earlier incident occurred, on February 13, 2018, with a United 777-200 carrying a PW4077 engine of roughly the same old model as the aircraft in yesterday's accident, and the engine failure occurred over the Pacific Ocean, as the 777 was bound for Honolulu. The engine on that plane disintegrated, the cover and front ring were missing, and parts of the engine were punctured while flying off the fuselage, and it was found that the 2018 accident was due to a broken propeller blade that was not detected due to the lack of periodic training of the inspectors.

In December 2020, a Japan Airlines 777-200 suffered a PW4074 engine failure, an accident involving the loss of a plate and a propeller blade, but that plane also landed safely.
