Arab Weather – Weather maps have revealed a surprising archival finding in   The climate of the Arabian Peninsula and weather maps showed a rare event at the beginning of February 1993, when Medina witnessed snowfall, which is considered a very rare occurrence, especially since Medina follows a desert climate.

 

Weather map archives show polar winds penetrating unusual areas

The snowfall coincided with the deepening of a very cold polar air mass moving towards the Levant, northern Arabia, and Iraq. This polar air mass brought extremely cold air masses of polar origin, resulting in a significant drop in temperatures across wide areas.

With this exceptional cold, the rain in some areas turned into snow as a result of surface temperatures dropping below zero degrees Celsius, which allowed snow to form and accumulate in some parts of the Medina region and its surroundings, which is very rare in the Arabian Peninsula desert.
