محنة القرود انتهت خلال شهر سبتمبر من العام 2011،حينما أفرج عنهم في ملجأ بالنمسا، بعد ان تم إطلاقهم إلى أجواء الطبيعة تحت أشعة الشمس، بعدما كانوا طيلة العمر خلف القضبان والزجاج الواقي من الرصاص.
