Is New Zealand the first country to be virtually free of Corona after 100 days have passed without local transmission of the virus?

ArabiaWeather - Health officials in New Zealand confirmed today, Sunday, that a hundred days have passed without the country witnessing any known local transmission of Covid-19 disease.

The nation's director general of health, Ashley Bloomfield, said the achievement was worth celebrating, but urged New Zealanders not to be complacent.

He continued in a statement: "We have seen in other countries how quickly the virus will re-emerge and spread in places that were previously under control, and we need to prepare faster to eliminate any future cases in New Zealand."

New Zealand currently has 23 active cases of COVID-19 - all of which were discovered at the border and are in isolation facilities.

The first known case coming from abroad to New Zealand was recorded on February 26, and the last local transmission was discovered on May 1.
