Arab Weather - Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the heat dome phenomenon increases during the summer and weakens with the weakening of the high pressure in the upper layers with the onset of autumn. The heat dome is a weather phenomenon that occurs when high air pressure accumulates over a specific area, which leads to the trapping of hot air in the lower layers of the atmosphere, resulting in a significant rise in temperatures. This phenomenon may last for several days, leading to severe heat waves.
The effects of the heat dome have recently receded from the skies of Jordan and the Levant, thankfully, due to the shape of the weather systems prevailing in the Northern Hemisphere. The latest outputs from numerical computer models, which simulate the movement of air masses and weather systems in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly Europe and the Levant, indicate that the shape of the weather systems appears striking, as a result of the flow of upper troughs with lower temperatures across the European continent toward the eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea.
Upper air systems coming from Eastern Europe are shifting the upper subtropical high eastward, causing heat waves and the heat dome to move away from the Levant and Jordan, thankfully. Therefore, temperatures are not expected to be significantly below normal, despite their rise in some periods.
Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Center said that current weather patterns do not indicate a heat dome will form over the Kingdom in the near future. Forecasts indicate that temperatures will remain within normal ranges, with some temperatures rising during certain periods.
Indicators also indicate that the heat dome will remain away from the Kingdom until approximately mid-September, God willing, while there is a chance that the Kingdom will be affected by moderate air masses.
