A new 7.1-magnitude earthquake hits eastern New Caledonia

Weather of Arabia - A new earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck the Loyalty Islands, east of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean, a day after a strong earthquake occurred in the same area.

The US Geological Survey said the quake had a depth of about 36 km.

Yesterday, Friday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake southeast of New Caledonia declared a tsunami alert, before the Civil Defense Department announced its cancellation later.

The Pacific Ring of Fire is witnessing continuous seismic activity as tectonic plates collide with each other.
