ArabiaWeather.com - The 17-year-old Saudi student, Abdul-Jabbar Al-Hamoud, won first place for the best project around the world, at the International Science and Engineering Fair, which was held in the US state of Pennsylvania.

Al-Hamoud, who is studying in the third year of high school and receives support from the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), is considered the first Saudi and Arab student to achieve this advanced position in this international competition.

He also won the award for the best field and the award for first place in botany, to win three important awards, including attending all the activities of the “Nobel Prize for Science” in Sweden, which is attended by elite scientists, scientific and political figures, in addition to rewarding sums of money.

Al-Hamoud received his award while wearing the Saudi dress, to show the extent of his connection to his identity, and that in Saudi Arabia they are capable of excellence and creativity, according to Al-Hayat newspaper.

The Saudi student participated in a research experiment, which is the use of the TRV virus for genetic engineering, so that genetic engineering is applied without collateral damage. The project was applied to 450 model plants, in addition to more than 50 tomato plants.
