Weather of Arabia - A Vietnamese man suffering from severe headaches for five months was greatly shocked after doctors discovered the presence of a pair of chopsticks in his brain. The New York Post reported that the patient, aged 35 years , presented to the Cuban Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi on November 25. He was complaining of a severe headache and liquid secretions.

After a CT scan, the man was diagnosed with tension pneumonia , a rare neurological condition characterized by dangerously high cranial pressure. Scans showed that the unusual cause of the man's symptoms was a pair of chopsticks that had entered his nose and reached his brain.

The man, who was confused at first, remembered that he had participated in a fight five months ago while drinking alcohol in Vietnam, and although the details of the fight were vague in his memory, he vaguely remembered being stabbed in the face with a foreign object, and the incident ended in the emergency room. The doctors succeeded in improving the man's condition and sent him home.

Successful surgery to remove chopsticks from the brain

After presenting all possible options, the medical team made the decision to perform transnasal endoscopic surgery, in addition to microsurgery to close the patient's cranial fistula and remove the pair of broken chopsticks. According to statements by Dr. Nguyen Van Man, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Cuban Friendship Hospital, the choice of method is Optimal surgical intervention is vital to avoid recurrence of patient pain and ensure proper recovery.

It clearly appears that cases of chopsticks getting stuck in the skull are not as rare as some might think. Just two years ago, the media reported a similar case in Taiwan, where a quarrel between a woman and her sister caused one of them to get their brains pierced with chopsticks.
