Weather and climate researcher Abdulaziz Al-Hussaini revealed today the most prominent characteristics of December, which is approaching its beginning and is considered the last month of the Gregorian calendar year.

Al-Hussaini explained via his official account on the “X” platform that December extends for 31 days, and corresponds in the Hijri calendar to the period from 10 Jumada al-Akhirah to 11 Rajab 1447 AH.

He added that this month is considered the beginning of the meteorological winter season in the northern hemisphere, as the first third of it represents approximately the Wasim season, one of the rainy seasons.

He also pointed out that Al-Murabba’aniyah begins on December 7, considering it the actual beginning of winter for the Arabs, adding that the first stars of Al-Murabba’aniyah are an extension of Al-Wasam from a practical and astronomical perspective.

He concluded his tweet by saying that December witnesses the astronomical winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, where the sun's rays are perpendicular, according to the apparent movement of the sun, to the Tropic of Capricorn during the period from December 21 to 22.
