June to September are the best times for partying and going to the beach

Summer in Porto brings long warm days and plenty of clear skies. The city gets the least amount of precipitation at this time of the year, although in the summer, occasional rains can occur. June is also the start of Porto's busiest time for events, with outdoor music festivals, religious processions (including one with a fishing boat), and some of the biggest festivities in the city.

Temperatures range around 23°C (73°F) but periodic heatwaves raise temperatures into the high 30s (90°F). July and August are the warmer months of the year, and you'll find locals cooling off on Praia de Matosinhos and other nearby beaches. Remember that even on the hottest days, the ocean temperature can still feel cooler on Portugal's northern beaches.

Summer also coincides with the peak visitor season in Porto. Higher hotel rates and larger crowds can be expected wherever you go, and you'll want to book ahead at the best restaurants.

Enjoy mild weather from March to May and October

Porto has shoulder seasons and coincides with spring and autumn. Colorful flowers fill the city's gardens from the end of March to the beginning of May, and if you take a day trip into the countryside, you can see wildflowers on a diaper nature walk in northern Portugal.

The last days of September and October bring bright autumnal colors to the parks and streets lining the Douro River above Porto. This is also the season for the grape harvest in the Douro Valley

The weather is a bit mixed this time of year, with more rain than in summer but fewer rainy days than you'll see in winter. The temperatures are almost ideal for outdoor activities, with daily high temperatures of around 17 °C (63 °F) in March, and around 20 °C (68 °F) in October.
