Arab Weather - The latest weather updates indicate that subtropical moisture will flow from Saturday through the end of the week towards large areas of the eastern Mediterranean, including the Arabian Peninsula.

This flow is expected to coincide with high temperatures, leading to the formation of thunderstorms daily during the afternoon and evening hours, including:

  • The highlands of western Saudi Arabia and the highlands of Yemen, and its scattered extension towards some other regions, especially the northern ones.
  • Al Hajar Highlands in the Sultanate of Oman, and parts of the southern and eastern UAE.
  • The interior and desert areas of Qatar are likely to be accompanied by heavy showers and downward winds that may cause sandstorms.
  • Scattered parts of Kuwait, Iraq and the Levant.
  • Red Sea coast and Sinai highlands in Egypt.

These clouds are expected to be accompanied by rain of varying intensity, which may be heavy at times and accompanied by hail in some areas of the Arabian Gulf. Sudden, strong downward winds will also be expected, causing widespread sandstorms, particularly in the Levant desert and parts of Iraq. This could significantly reduce horizontal visibility.

This activity is attributed to the rush of warm, humid air currents into the middle and upper layers of the atmosphere from subtropical regions, coinciding with the influence of thermal depressions on the Earth's surface, which increases the chances of cumulonimbus clouds forming.
