Due to recent cold waves, the temperature of the waters of the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea has decreased compared to previous months

Arab Weather - Specialists at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the latest outputs of computer models for monitoring the temperature of water bodies indicate that the temperature of the Mediterranean Sea will continue to be warmer than usual in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, ranging from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius, exceeding its usual rates by approximately 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. Despite this, recent cold fronts have contributed to reducing the temperature of the sea water compared to what it was in previous months.

To clarify this context, when cold air masses rush towards the surface of warm waters and form depressions, these weather systems feed on the heat of the surface of the warm waters and over time lead to their decrease. The speed of the decrease depends on the quantity and coldness of the air masses that reach the waters.

The western part of the Mediterranean Sea witnessed a clear cooling during this winter.

The central and western parts of the Mediterranean have seen a significant drop in surface water temperatures this winter due to the repeated influx of very cold air masses into those areas, but they are still slightly above average for this time of year in most parts, and lower than average in some parts such as the Italian islands where water temperatures are now around 14-15 degrees Celsius in most parts.
