The governor of the North Aegean region, Christiana Kalogero, which includes Chios, confirmed that the fire is very serious, as it destroyed the mastic trees in the south of the island ahead of the harvest season in August.

It is noteworthy that a fire in 2007 killed about 70 people in the worst forest fire in decades.
