For a cheaper stay, time your visit to Auckland around the time students return to school at the end of February and March, as these are the nice months to visit the city and the weather is warm, not as humid as the peak summer months.
There are also many free events to enjoy at this time of year, including live music and outdoor film screenings at Auckland's beautiful parks and beaches.
Eating out at restaurants in Auckland is a surefire way to burn through your budget quickly, so try eating in for a few meals during your stay. The best way to do this is to stay somewhere that has a kitchen – whether it's a hostel where the kitchen is shared, or an apartment rental through Airbnb , Or hotel apartment.
