In pictures: a Turkish city that combines East and West

Arabiaweather.com - Edirne is a city located in the province of the same name located in the far northwest of Turkey in the European part of the country and along the Greek and Bulgarian borders.

It was founded by the Romans in the second century AD and fell into the hands of the Ottomans in the year 1362 AD.

Its climate follows the humid semi-continental system, as its summers are hot, with an average maximum temperature of about 31.7 Celsius, while the winters are cold and sometimes snowy, with an average maximum temperature of 6.7 Celsius in January. In terms of rain, it is distributed throughout the months of the year, with an increase in precipitation between October and May. The annual average is 575.3 mm.

Among its most famous buildings is the "Selimiye" mosque, which was built by Sultan Selim II in 1575 AD, designed by the architect Sinan Agha. Its minarets are the highest in Turkey, each with a height of 70.1 meters.

Although the city of Edirne is of an Islamic nature, with its magnificent mosques, it includes some Bulgarian and Greek churches.

The city is famous for making white cheese and soap, in addition to the silk, leather, woolen textiles and perfume industries.
