Japan and Taiwan are on a date with a strong typhoon

ArabiaWeather.com- Today, Monday, a strong typhoon is heading towards islands in southwestern Japan and Taiwan, amid warnings issued by the authorities of the two countries of strong winds, high waves and heavy rain.

More than 300 people were evacuated from their homes on the islands of Yonaguni and Ishigaki, and nearly 100 families in the area lost their electricity, according to the Japanese newspaper Ryukyu Shimpo, and dozens of flights were canceled in Okinawa Prefecture.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said that the eye of the storm was observed at nine o'clock in the morning, Monday, local time, about 110 km south of Iriomote Island, and was heading northwest at a speed of 15 km per hour.

The agency said that the twenty-first hurricane in this season is accompanied by winds of 180 kilometers per hour and gusts of 252 kilometers per hour.

Typhoon "Dujuan" is expected to hit Taiwan later in the day, as authorities warned of flooding in coastal and low-lying areas.

The state-owned Central News Agency said the typhoon may cause the cancellation of high-speed trains and some flights.

Dijuan will become the second typhoon to hit Taiwan within two months, after Typhoon Soudelor killed eight people last August.
