Arab Weather - Weather maps in Arab Weather indicate the formation of a new low-pressure system on Thursday, the first day of the new year 2026, and it will be concentrated in the north of the Kingdom since the early morning hours, as a highly effective cold front slowly crosses the north of the Kingdom, and is expected to reach the center and Karak later on Thursday and Thursday night/Friday.
As a result, rainfall will resume for the third time this week, and will be very heavy throughout the north of the Kingdom, causing a large flow of valleys and the formation of torrents.
During the day, wind speeds will increase in most regions of the Kingdom, and most regions, except for the north of the Kingdom, will be temporarily spared from rainfall.
During the evening and night hours, the impact of the low-pressure system intensifies. A highly effective and slow-moving cold front reaches the central regions and Karak after completing its passage through the northern region, so that rainfall extends to include the capital Amman, Balqa, and parts of Zarqa Governorate, and will subsequently extend to Madaba and Karak Governorates, and will be heavy at times.
Given that the soil and ground are saturated with moisture and water, and due to heavy rainfall over several days during the past week, it is recommended that:
1) Very large flow of valleys and reefs
2) The formation of flash floods and torrential rains, including in the northern and central Jordan Valley regions.
3) Large water accumulations on roads
4) Potential for soil and rock erosion
During the rest of Friday, the low pressure system will begin to gradually move away from the Kingdom, but cold and humid air currents will continue to affect the region, and temperatures will remain about 3–4 degrees Celsius below average.
Cold weather prevails in general, with clouds appearing at different altitudes, and chances of rain continue intermittently in parts of the north and center of the Kingdom and some southern highlands.
God willing, the Kingdom is expected to begin being affected by the Siberian high pressure system during the night hours, resulting in a noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures and very cold weather in most areas, with frost expected at night in several regions.
1) Wear warm clothes, especially during the night and early morning hours.
2) Ensure the safe use of heating appliances.
3) Drive carefully and leave a sufficient safety distance during rain and fog.
4) Be aware of the risk of flash floods and overflowing valleys, especially in low-lying areas and locations where flash floods usually form.
5) Beware of landslides and rockfalls, especially in the southern highlands, slope areas, and valleys.
6) Be aware of dense fog and reduced horizontal visibility on external roads.
And God knows best.
