Arab Weather - With the onset of autumn meteorologically, Arab Weather highlights a weather event from the archives that affected the Kingdom at the start of autumn, bringing rain to many regions.

Weather forecasters at ArabiaWeather said that the Kingdom is accustomed to experiencing weather instability during autumn, especially in its early stages, as the Red Sea depression begins to advance, coinciding with the approach of cold air to the region. This, as the Kingdom has witnessed in several seasons, leads to unstable weather conditions and random rainfall, sometimes accompanied by thunder.

However, it is unusual for the Kingdom to be affected by a winter depression with all its characteristics and a cold air mass in the early stages of autumn. This is what actually happened, according to archive records, on the first day of October 1986.

After consulting the Kingdom's weather archives, supported by archival maps created based on reanalysis of weather data issued by the European Centre for Weather Forecasts, available on the French website meteociel.fr, a relatively cold air mass began to rush towards the Kingdom on the night of October 1, 1986.

As a result of the continued rush of cold air, which is rare for this time of year, across southeastern Europe towards the eastern Mediterranean basin, a deep low pressure system with values of 1000 hectopascals formed on the night of October 2, 1986, to the east of the island of Cyprus, which led to noticeable wind activity and a clear drop in temperatures. This was accompanied by rainfall and stormy and rainy winter weather at intervals, and hail in some areas in the north and center of the Kingdom and parts of the south of the Kingdom, amid true winter weather and at the beginning of autumn astronomically.

It's worth noting that the Kingdom was experiencing temperatures in the thirties days before the depression, according to archival maps. Temperatures reached nearly 32 degrees Celsius on September 29, 1986, and dropped to 16 degrees Celsius in some areas on October 2 of the same year, a difference of 16 degrees Celsius.
