Jordan | Ministry of Water: The current rainy season is “reassuring and promising”

Weather of Arabia - The spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Omar Salama, said that the current rainy season is considered “reassuring and good” compared to previous seasons, as this was clearly and positively reflected in the storage of dams.

Salama explained in his statements to Al-Mamlaka TV on Tuesday that the percentage of water storage in the King Talal Dam has improved significantly compared to last year, as the percentage of storage at this time last year was 40% , amounting to 114.5 million cubic metres , and today we are talking about 45.5. %, or 131.15 million cubic metres.

He pointed out that the rainfall during the current season was continuous, and was concentrated in the central and northern regions, and the best rainfall was in the southern regions (Ma’an, Tafila, Karak, and Aqaba governorates).

Salama confirmed that the dams are currently showing good and reassuring indicators for the next agricultural season, as a result of the continued rainfall that has contributed to groundwater recharge. He added:

“We noticed an eruption in some springs that had not erupted for many years, especially in the Ajloun and Jerash governorates, and many old springs came out strongly and with a good percentage of water, and this is an indication that there is good rainfall.”

He pointed out that Al-Wahda Dam, one of the most important major dams, is still modest and is less than it was last year. Today, the dam’s stock is 9 million cubic meters and last year it was 12.5 million cubic metres , while the Wadi Al-Arab Dam is better today in terms of storage with an amount of 10.5 million cubic meters and last year. It was 7.8 million cubic metres , and the storage percentage in the Wadi Shuaib Dam was 91% , and the storage quantities in the Al-Kafrain Dam were 5.5 million cubic metres, the Al-Wala Dam was 8.4 million cubic metres , and the Mujib Dam was 22 million cubic metres.

Regarding the percentage of rain that has fallen since the beginning of the season, Salama said:

“Irbid Governorate recorded the highest precipitation during the rainy season at 140%, then Ajloun Governorate 100%, Jerash 44.2%, East Amman 79.8%, Jabal Al-Hussein 62.7%, Wadi Al-Seer and West Amman 78.1%, Balqa 68.3%, Madaba 53.3%, Karak 30.5%. %, Tafila 30.2%, Shobak 56.3%, Ma’an 27%, Aqaba 91%, Zarqa 75.1%.
