Arab Weather - Minister of Agriculture Eng. Khaled Al-Hunaifat confirmed that the expectations for this year's olive season are encouraging, pointing out the ministry's keenness to support this vital sector, which is considered a fundamental pillar of the agricultural economy and a source of income for many Jordanian families. He also stressed the importance of this sector's role in enhancing national food security and maintaining environmental balance.

Olive pressing season begins

Al-Hanifat indicated in his statements that the olive pressing season will begin on October 15. The minister based his expectations on accurate scientific and field studies conducted by the ministry in cooperation with local partners and experts, as the total olive production for this season is expected to reach about 175 thousand tons.

  • Olive oil and pickles production

The minister added that about 143,000 tons of the olive crop will be allocated to olive oil production, with expectations of producing about 26,000 tons of high-quality olive oil. The remaining quantities, estimated at about 32,000 tons, will be used for pickling purposes, which enhances the diversity of products and increases the added value of the fruits.

  • Meeting the needs of the local market and export

Regarding the local market, Al-Hanifat expected the demand for olive oil to reach about 25 thousand tons, which means that the surplus quantities will be used to enhance the strategic stock and support the Kingdom’s exports. He explained that this step aims to consolidate Jordan’s position as a reliable source of olive oil in regional and global markets.

  • Price stability and sector support

Al-Hanifat stressed that olive oil prices this season are expected to be stable, noting that factors related to supply, demand and product quality will affect prices. He also stressed the ministry’s commitment to providing all forms of support to farmers and workers in the olive sector, calling for enhanced cooperation between the relevant authorities to ensure the success of the season and take advantage of the opportunities available in this sector.
