Jordan | Second weakest rainfall performance in the last 65 years: Accumulated rainfall amounts until mid-December amounted to only 4% (details)

Arab Weather - Director of the Meteorology Department, Raed Al Khattab, said that the accumulated rainfall until mid-December amounted to 4% of the general seasonal average, making this season the second weakest performance after the 1958/1959 season, according to the climate record of the Amman Civil Airport monitoring station.

Al-Khattab pointed out in a statement on Monday that the amounts of rainfall accumulated since the beginning of the rainy season until mid-December usually constitute about 23% of the general seasonal average in most regions of the Kingdom, and this percentage reaches 27% with the beginning of the winter square.

Aqaba and Ma'an did not witness any rainfall, and the rainy season is the weakest in Zarqa in 6 decades

Al Khattab pointed out that the Jordan Valley regions recorded the highest rainfall amounts in the Kingdom, but they are still below the required average. He explained that the cities of Aqaba and Ma'an, including the Jafr area, have not witnessed any rainfall since the beginning of the season until now. The current season is the weakest in Zarqa Governorate in 6 decades.

According to the climate record of the Amman Civil Airport monitoring station, which extends over 100 years, the station recorded 2.7 mm (2% of the general seasonal average) compared to 1.7 mm (1%) in the 1958/1959 season. Despite the poor rainfall performance in that season, it ended the season with 86% of the general seasonal average.

Forecast for the coming days

Al Khattab pointed out that the coming days will witness the winter solstice and the beginning of the winter square, which is considered one of the important periods in the rainy season. The square rains usually constitute 30% of the general seasonal average, and its days are characterized by extreme cold and various weather phenomena such as frost, freezing, and rain or snow.

He added that the winter square is followed by the winter five-day period, which contributes rainfall equivalent to about 37% of the general seasonal average, and extends until the beginning of the spring equinox.
