ArabiaWeather.com- The Jordanian National Electric Power Company seeks to exploit renewable energy to produce electricity through the implementation of the "Green Corridor" project, which is 150 kilometers long, linking multiple sites in the Kingdom.

The company will hold a meeting this month, September, with a delegation from the project financiers, to discuss the details and terms of the tender that will be offered for this purpose.

Those in charge of the project expect it to enter service during the year 2018, according to the plan. This carrier will provide a capacity to absorb 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy from the first and second phase projects implemented by the private sector to produce electricity from solar energy, and government projects in the fields of renewable energy as well.

The cost of the project will be about $160 million. The government, represented by the National Electric Power Company, will pay $12.6 million of this amount, according to Al-Ghad newspaper.

In addition, European grants through the Neighborhood Policy Agreements amount to $20.2 million, and a loan of about $126.9 million that the government's Public Debt Committee recently approved for the National Electric Power Company.

The company also obtained the approval of the European Investment Bank and the French Development Agency to obtain the loan from them as financiers of the project.

It is noteworthy that the current network can only accommodate 700 megawatts of renewable energy projects until the end of the current year 2015.

The energy strategy includes raising the contribution of renewable energy in the energy mix to 7% in 2015 and 10% in 2020, including 600 to 1,000 megawatts of wind energy, 300 to 600 megawatts of solar energy, and 30 to 50 megawatts of waste.
