Jordan | Wind gusts exceed 100 km/h and a warning of dust waves in desert areas on Wednesday and Thursday

Arab Weather - The weather maps for the wind and dust intensity forecasts developed at the Arab Weather Center indicate that the Kingdom will be affected on Tuesday by a gradual blowing of active westerly winds, the speed of which will increase as the day passes due to the decrease in atmospheric pressure values, as the average wind speed reaches more than 45 km/h, accompanied by strong gusts exceeding 70 km/h, especially in mountainous and exposed areas, which raise dust waves in desert areas and lead to a decrease and perhaps a lack of horizontal visibility.

A noticeable increase in wind speed on Wednesday night and Thursday day, accompanied by strong gusts.

God willing, with the deepening of the low pressure system during the hours of Wednesday/Thursday night and Thursday dawn and day, there is expected to be a noticeable increase in surface wind speed, as it will be strong, especially during the afternoon and evening, and will be accompanied by strong gusts at times that may exceed 100 km/h in the southern desert and mountains. Dust waves and dust storms are expected in the southeast and east of the Kingdom, especially in areas that have not witnessed rainfall. The phenomenon of moving sand on desert roads is also not excluded as a result of the high wind speed.

The Arab Weather website advises the need to secure lightweight and volatile objects from the roofs of houses, and it is also recommended to reduce speed while driving on roads that witness a decrease in horizontal visibility due to dust.

Winds will decrease in intensity on Thursday/Friday night, but will remain active, especially in the southern regions.

As the low pressure system moves towards northern Iraq, wind speeds will gradually decrease on Thursday/Friday night, while remaining active in the southern highlands of the Kingdom, accompanied by strong gusts at times in those areas, God willing.

In light of the expectations of strong winds, the Arab Weather Center advises:

Secure lightweight and volatile items from rooftops.
Beware of the risks of dust waves and their impact on patients with respiratory and eye diseases and horizontal visibility on desert roads.
Beware of creeping sand on desert roads, especially on Thursday.
