Weather of Arabia - Cambodian artist Min Taithpheb created a unique sculpture that embodies the fictional character “King Kong” using 500 tires from bicycles and motorcycles. This famous creature, which first appeared in cinema in 1933, was represented. This artwork highlights the artist’s dedication to encouraging others. He focused on reusing materials, as he relied on recycling tires in his creativity, highlighting issues of sustainability and environmental preservation through his distinctive art.
The height of the artistic sculpture created by the artist, which is used to embody the fictional character “King Kong,” reached two and a half meters. The completion process took five weeks, with the talented artist receiving help from two people who worked alongside him.
For four years, the 37-year-old artist, who was educated at the College of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, has been transforming discarded tires into stunning pieces of art, and has so far produced about 40 artistic sculptures, which have been sold to a number of customers, and these include Different versions represent King Kong, statues of elephants, lions, and cobra snakes, in addition to Garuda, a creature that is part human and part bird, and which belongs to the world of mythology.
In a statement to Agence France-Presse, Teethvib hopes to inspire others to use discarded rubber and plastic materials to create innovative works of art, with the aim of contributing to reducing environmental pollution. Where he says:
“I used old tires from bicycles and motorcycles to create animal models. These tires are usually left to be disposed of, and if we can recycle them, it will be of great benefit to the environment.”
Cambodia faces a major and growing challenge in waste management, despite government efforts in this context. Despite the increase in population in this country in conjunction with increasing incomes and the spread of urbanization, the issue of waste management is not witnessing any significant progress.
Artist Teethvib receives sums ranging between $2,000 and $3,000 from his clients in exchange for creating a statue depicting the famous character “King Kong,” which is considered among his most prominent works. He is currently working on a statue depicting the famous character “Captain America,” and decorating the entrance to his workshop with a giant statue of a cobra snake. Made from bicycle tires, it reflects his insistence on transforming waste resources into magnificent pieces of art.
