On Thursday, Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat met with the head and members of the General Syndicate of Olive Press Owners and Producers in Jordan to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and develop the sector.
During the meeting, Khraisat stressed that the olive sector is one of the main pillars of the Jordanian agricultural sector, emphasizing the ministry’s keenness to support it and enhance its competitiveness locally and internationally.
He noted that the current olive season is expected to be promising in terms of production volume and quality, driven by the exceptional rainy season that the Kingdom has witnessed.
Regarding the local market, Khraisat explained that the ministry has taken measures to regulate the import of olive oil, in order to ensure that demand is met without affecting the local product, while maintaining price stability and providing it at reasonable prices for citizens.
He also noted that olive oil exports will continue to be permitted, with the aim of preserving traditional markets and enhancing the presence of Jordanian products abroad.
In a related context, the minister stressed the need to intensify efforts to combat olive oil adulteration, by strengthening oversight and conducting laboratory tests in cooperation with the relevant authorities, in order to ensure product quality and enhance consumer confidence.
For their part, the head and members of the union praised the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture, stressing the importance of continued coordination and partnership to meet the challenges and ensure the sustainability of this vital sector.
