Pictures: The caves of Ras Munif.. one of Jordan's archaeological treasures

ArabiaWeather.com - Ras Munif, is that northern town in our beloved Kingdom. It sits on the peaks of the Ajloun Mountains from the north and forms a lofty beacon that illuminates the path of the fertile plains of the north to the south and announces the end of the Hauran extension.

The height of this town is about 1100 meters above sea level, while it rises at its highest peaks to about 1160 meters from the point of transmission, and it constitutes a landmark of Jordan's snows in the winter season.

There is not a single rainy season without snowfall in that area, if it is not even heavy, as it received at the beginning of March of the year 2012 a huge accumulation of snow that exceeded 75 centimeters, and the snow remained stuck in that season until the middle of the same month, and the accumulation of snow reached it during a storm Mid-December 2013, about two meters.

The average long-term maximum temperature in the Ras Munif region is about 7 degrees Celsius only in January. The Ajloun Mountains extend in its northern part in the form of a plateau to extend to the neighboring areas of Ibbin and Ibilin to the south and the Kafr Khel region to the east in Jerash Governorate, and to the north extending to the Arhaba area in Irbid, but with an average elevation of 950 meters.

Ras Munif has an ancient archaeological reserve in addition to its snow-white stock, as it contains several ancient caves and caverns that are likely to date back to the Roman or even the Greek era, by seeing writings on them dating back to those ages.

The caves hide among the oak forests and lead you quickly into the ground, where the ancient inhabitants of Ajlun sought refuge from the cold of winter and the heat of summer.
